Premier League Darts preview – Night seven – Glasgow

One of the world’s most famous paradoxes is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Well tonight, we find out.

Dart’s unstoppable force Michael Van Gerwen meets the sport’s long-time immovable object Phil Taylor in the latest instalment of The Premier League.

The clash is the headline act for what is set to be a stella night of darting drama as world champion Gary Anderson plays twice in front of a home crowd.

So, I hereby present New Perspective’s Premier League Darts predictions.

Gary Anderson vs. Adrian Lewis

Lewis will be after revenge for the World Championships defeat to Anderson in January and he’s got every chance of getting it.

Gary has been in indifferent form in The Premier League but was back to his brilliant best against Michael Smith last week.

Adrian has not always produced his best form in The Premier league but has been much better in this year’s tournament. I thought he would struggle against Peter Wright last week but he showed how good a player he is when he gets that first dart in the treble.

Prediction: Very difficult to split two quality players. I think Lewis might nick it in a last leg decider though. Lewis to win 7-5.

James Wade vs. Robert Thornton

Thornton is having a torrid time of it of late and there is only one winner here. These two famously both hit a nine dart leg in the same game, but we are still waiting for the first nine darter in The Premier League since 2012.

Whilst Thornton is stuck in one of his worst spells of his career, Wade is playing as good as ever. He is perhaps struggling a little bit with consistency but has got a good chance of making finals night if he can nick some results against the big guns.

Prediction: Should be comfortable for Wade, but Thornton will avoid the 7-0 humbling he received from Taylor last week. Wade to win 7-3.

Michael Van Gerwen vs. Phil Taylor

Got plans for tonight? Cancel them. Michael Van Gerwen has been so incredulously brilliant in the last few weeks that it’s actually made people question whether he – and not Taylor – is the greatest player ever.

Personally, that is a bit hasty. Let’s remember that Phil Taylor is 16-times champion of the world. MVG still has a further 15 to reach that mark and – whilst moping up titles on the circuit – has bottled it in recent world championships.

Tonight’s game should be a cracker because Taylor has really found his range in the last few weeks and is coming off the back a whitewash over Robert Thornton. The big question is whether Taylor can handle the recent stratospheric averages of Michael? It’s going to be hard if he’s up around the 120 mark once again but never right The Power off.

Prediction: Taylor is the man for the big occasion. He’s not quite done yet. Taylor to win 7-5.

Raymond Van Barneveld vs. Dave Chisnall

These are both two incredibly talented players but both are struggling to get the results at the moment. Because of this, both run the risk of dropping into the relegation zone ahead of judgement night which adds extra impetus on this evening’s clash.

Barney should have sneaked a draw last week against Wade and frankly Chizzy just got blown away by MVG. This should be a good game and it’s difficult to predict because if both bring their ‘A’ game then it could be a classic.

Prediction: I think Chizzy will edge this. Barney’s just suffering a dip in form at the wrong time. Chisnall to win 7-4.

Gary Anderson vs. Peter Wright

Will Snakebite sting The Flying Scot on home soil?
Will Snakebite sting The Flying Scot on home soil?

It’s two really tough games for Anderson this evening because Wright is playing really well at the moment.

His average has been around the 108 mark in the last few weeks and he’ll run Anderson close if he can continue that level of performance.

With the home crowd behind him Anderson will want to get something out of these two games and I fancy him to get something here.

Prediction: I think this will be a great contest to end the evening. Snakebite will not be worried about the crowd and will claim a point. A 6-6 draw.
