Yoga for babies can help fight segregation in Medway

A local Russian community group have just announced that they are launching baby yoga and health classes this autumn in an attempt to integrate immigrant mothers into the Medway community.

The Russian Speaking Eastern European Association will begin activities and workshops this November in order to bring the migrant and British communities closer together. One of the organisers behind this, Polina Bishenden, said that experiencing something new together can create a bridge between local and immigrant mothers: “Every member will be learning something new whether you’re a Russian speaker or born in bred in Chatham, and we hope it will create a space for the immigrants to interact with British mothers.

“We have a lot of young mothers in our Eastern European community and we have seen they don’t integrate very well with the local mothers so we decided to set up baby yoga classes among other health related activities. This means mothers and babies will be able to bond through a completely new concept, and also allow them to be able to break out of always being home and alone with the baby; they’ll become more social in their motherhood.”

The workshops will be available from November and more information will be up next week on the RSEEA Facebook page.
