Day 2 stumps: India batsmen frustrate England in fourth Test

Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara shared a 107 run partnership to frustrate England as India fought back on the second day of the fourth test in Mumbai.

After setting a good score of 400 thanks to Jos Buttler’s 76 and Jake Ball, India wrestled back the initiative with their batting display, closing on 146-1.

KL Rahul fell early on in India’s innings to Moeen Ali, but they steadied the ship with a composed 70 not out from Vijay, with Pujara ably supporting with 46.

Earlier in the day, Ravichandaran Ashwin took another 5 wicket haul to clean up the England tail, as the hosts look to extend their 2-0 series advantage.

“It’s a good total, 400, if you have decent spinners, but England’s spinners are nowhere near as good as India’s” former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott said on Test Match Special.

“They have one good spinner and one average spinner. They leak a lot of runs and it’s very hard for them to squeeze pressure.”
