Fighting for cancer – the local solution to the NHS neglect

This week marked a victory for cancer research as the NHS will receive £200 million in funding to localize and improve cancer care and treatments. Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells are among the lucky hospitals despite Medway Maritime having one of the lowest early detection rates of the disease in the country. However, this Sunday Gillingham residents and students came together at the local football club to raise money on their own. The event Ultra White Collar Boxing saw amateurs fight for a cause and donate money to Cancer Research UK.

Our reporter Vendela spoke to Medway student Brad Allen, one of the boxing amateurs who came out a winner; for the second year in a row.

Although Medway was neglected by the NHS funding, the Ultimate White Collar Boxing event is proof that the community can do their part to contribute to cancer research.
