Samsung to reduce Note 7 battery capacity to 30%

Mobile phone giant Samsung will update Note 7 phones still in use so that batteries can only be charged up to 30%.

The model was recalled worldwide in September after a number of complaints of exploding batteries but roughly 10% of people in Europe are yet to return their device.

“This new battery software update is specifically designed to reinforce to the remaining minority of customers to immediately replace their device,” Samsung said in a statement.

An update issued by the company  in September which limited the maximum capacity to 60% same a huge amount of people return their device.

The update will take effect on 15 December and the phones can be swapped at local replacement programmes.
