Colourblind artist features interactive art exhibit to skew viewers perspective

Colourblind artist, Jonathan Ash, has displayed dozens of bright and colourful painting’s at Chatham’s Halpern Gallery in the Nucleus Arts Centre.

The exhibit showcases brilliant artwork that changes before your eyes. Right at the entrance of the gallery lay a series of tinted shades and 3-D glasses to reinvent the viewing experience. These glasses allow for the viewers to see something different than what they are used to.

The artwork is done in layers, since Jonathan can’t blend pigments well. These layers are what cause such a drastic shift in colour when looking through different glasses.

Jonathan said that each piece of art has a different meaning to him, and he wanted to try and show people what it was like to have your colour perception skewed.

“I can’t show you what I see, but I can mess with other people’s vision,” he said.

Jonathan has had previous art shows throughout Chatham and Rochester, but this one features a different perspective on the artwork for those who can distinguish between the different colours.

He has only been painting for 2 years, but his artwork has progressed immensely. The gallery is available for viewing up through November 27th. Stay tuned for the full report and video footage of the gallery.
