The television presenter announced he was gay in a statement that was posted on his instagram. He wrote: “With the strength and support of my wife and daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay.”
Schofield has been married to his wife Stephanie Lowe for 27 years and they have two daughters together.
A couple of minutes after the statement was posted to his Instagram he was interviewed by his co-host Holly Willoughby, who took to her Instagram to share her support under a photo of the two of them, stating that she has “never been more proud of my friend than I am today”.
The 57 year old’s voice broke as he discussed how he was attempting to come to terms with his sexuality “with every person that I tell,” he said, the burden “became a little lighter”.
