Scotland Yard have asked Whitehall investigator Sue Gray to make “minimal reference” to the key details of the parties held in 10 Downing Street during lockdown, significantly hindering her report.

The MET have asked Ms. Gray to report on other events but have asked her to limit other elements of the report that Scotland Yard are investigating, to avoid prejudice of the investigation.

The MET said, in a statement that they “did not ask for any limitations on other events in the report, or for the report to be delayed, but we have had ongoing contact with the Cabinet Office, including on the content of the report, to avoid any prejudice to our investigation.”

The inquiry comes after multiple reports of “Bring your own Booze” parties held in 10 Downing Street during the first lockdowns.

Sue Gray’s report on suspected breaches of Covid regulations, which is suspected to come out in following days, has the potential to stimulate a vote of no confidence in Boris Johnson’s cabinet.

Jill Rutter, senior fellow at the Institute for Government, said that there should have been little surprise of a hold up, thanks to HR, lawyers and unions wanting to examine the report.

Ms Ruter also told the BBC “We’ve also heard that the unions are getting involved. Some of [the people named in the report] may be union members and unions may be making representations that they don’t think that their members should be named”

Mr Johnson has denied claims that he has delayed the publication of the Gray Report.
