Bonkers for conkers? World Conkers Championships in Northamptonshire

Conker enthusiasts from around the world will be flocking to Southwick, Northamptonshire Sunday the 14th of October for the World Conker Championships.

The annual competition takes place on the second Sunday of October and pits constestants against each other in the classic playground game.

It’s not just for fun though, as besides admission fees participants are encouraged to donate to charities to help the blind.

Conkers and strings are provided by Ashton Conker Club who also stage the event. They list the full set of rules on their website.

According to the National Woodland Inventory of Woodland trees there are almost half a million horse chestnut trees in Great Britain.
