Medway Librarian creates book of locally inspired poems

By Joe Dawson

Medway has had a vivid history of literary excellence, hosting heavyweights such as William Blake and Charles Dickens throughout it’s lineage.

More recently, the towns were host to the Medway Poets, a group of punk revolutionary poets that took a modern approach to the medium, reaching acclaim with The Power House And Other Plays.

Now, it will be host to a new piece of poetic history, as a book of personal poems will be released by a Gillingham librarian.

Poetry enthusiast Sarah Jenkin from Chatham has drawn inspiration from all over the Medway towns to create her book of tales and experiences.

Fire In The Head explores Medway’s history, as well it’s the myths and legends, including stories about famous poet William Blake.

The book has already reached critical acclaim from poetry websites, calling it a, ‘pure exploration of wild freedom.’ We went to meet the librarian turned poet at her place of work, the Gillingham Hub Library.
