Conferment of Honorary Freedom to HMS Medway

A freedom parade will be held in Medway in honour of the HMS Medway. The council have made plans to hold a formal presentation.

The HMS Medway is a batch 2 river -class offshore patrol vessel currently under construction for the British royal navy.

The honorary freedom of the borough is the highest distinction the can be conferred in recognition of outstanding services.

This will ensure the Medway of the area will be maintained within the community.

Councillor Howard Doe said: “it is Absolutely vital to maintain relationships with the Navy”.

The ship means a lot to Medway, rooted in deeply in history of the area. There have been 10 sips and ashore establishments of the Royal Navy named after the River Medway.

All of them have taken part in multiple military scenarios.

The date of the parade is yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, the council have begun deciding the budget and have set aside £16,000 to cover the event.
