Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: The view from Norway

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has kicked off life in Manchester in unprecedented fashion winning all 7 of his opening games, a feat neither Sir Alex Ferguson or Sir Matt Busby managed to achieve despite both being contenders for greatest manager of all time.

The man from Molde’s revitalised ‘red devils’ sink their teeth into Unai Emery’s gunners tonight in the ‘baby faced assassin’s’ first real tough test since taking over the reigns at Old Trafford. Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has called for Ole to be given the job on a full time basis once his loan from his current club Molde ends. But, what do his compatriots back home think of his stint in charge at the Theatre of Dreams?

Ole earned the nickname baby faced assassin during his playing days

When the rumours first emerged that Ole was in line to take the top job of the Premier League side it was national news in Norway. It was the top story on Norways NRK evening news programme and was featured heavily in both the front and back pages of Norwegian national paper VG.

Footballer Camilla Livgard Jenson ,21, from Halligndal, Norway thinks Solskjaer’s appointment has been great for Norwegian football “It is great for Norway to have a Norwgian manager studying in the Premier League,” she said.

She also says that there are still many Norwegian children who look up to Solskjaer, despite the fact he retired almost 12 years ago now. She also said that his work at Old Trafford will only inspire future generations to get involved with football even more.

She also said: “He’s playing really attacking offensive football which is different to the old coach who played very negative football at times.”

Camilla also told us that she’s impressed that Solskjaer has managed to get United’s underperforming stars to perform: “He’s really gotten the star players to shine, players like Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford have scored a lot of goals”

But, does this mean that Solskjaer is in pole position to permanently scoop the top job at Old Trafford, for Camilla the jury’s still out: “he’s won 7 games in a row but it might still be soon to tell, but if he did it would certainly be fun.”

Solskjaer is also the boss of Molde in Norway and is only interim manager at Utd.
