Elliott List and Gillingham feature in ‘Roy of the Rovers’ special edition

by Max Meads, reporter

A special edition of classic footballing comic Roy of the Rovers, created to commemorate the FA Cup 3rd Round has featured Gillingham’s cup hero Elliott List.

The comic followed a fictional story of the life of footballer Roy Race, and more recently his son Rocky. However, the FA has produced a limited-edition version celebrating the biggest shocks of the FA Cup Third Round.

Front and centre of the edition was Gillingham FC, who knocked out Premier League side Cardiff City thanks to Elliott List’s 81st minute strike.

List signed copies of the comic for fans on Thursday along with manager Steve Lovell, and was keen on the idea of another ‘Roy of the Rovers’-type performance from the Gills on Saturday.

“It would be great to get another one against Swansea on Saturday, but as long as we win I don’t mind,” List said yesterday.

Gillingham’s manager Steve Lovell has said that it is entirely possible that his team can do “the Welsh double” on Saturday, but has warned that his team will need to be on top of their game if they have any chance of upsetting the script again.
