Rodrigo Duterte In Quotes

Rodrigo Duterte, the president of the Philippines marks 100 days in office today as his popularity in the country continues to soar.

He also has a reputation for saying things that most people would consider controversial and offensive.

The hallmark of his administration has been an unfaltering crackdown on drug dealers as he urged civilians and the police to conduct extra-judicial killings of suspects.

Here are some of his most contentious statements:

On killing drug addicts

“These sons of whores are destroying our children. I warn you, don’t go into that, even if you’re a policeman, because I will really kill you,”

Joking about rape

“I was angry because she was raped. That’s one thing. But she was so beautiful. The mayor should have been first.”

Comparing himself to Hitler:

“Hitler massacred three million Jews. Now, there is three million drug addicts. I’d be happy to slaughter them.”

Insulting the Pope:

“We were affected by the traffic. It took us five hours. I asked why, they said it was closed. I asked who is coming. They answered, the pope. I wanted to call him: ‘Pope, son of a wh**e, go home. Do not visit us again.”

On his private life:

“I was separated from my wife. I’m not impotent. What am I supposed to do? Let this hang forever? When I take Viagra, it stands up.”

Insulting Obama:

After calling the US president a ‘son of a whore’ he recently said he can ‘go to hell’.

On the drug trade:

“None of my children are into illegal drugs. But my order is, even if it is a member of my family, ‘kill him’,” he told The Philippine Star
