Research by the Resolution Foundation reveals self employed workers are earning less than they did in 1995

hairdressersThe self-employed are not taking home as much they used to 20 years ago. The blame is on the rise of lower paid jobs and the financial crisis, which has reduced pay rates.

This has affected the likes of construction workers, hairdressers, taxi drivers, tutors and IT consultants.

The package below features Dan Tomlinson, a researcher at Resolution Foundation as well as self-employed workers from Gillingham.
