Death of penguins at Calgary Zoo to be investigated

The deaths of seven Humboldt penguins at Calgary zoo in Canada are being investigated.

Autopsies were performed after the aquatic birds were found in the ‘Penguin Plunge’ exhibit having drowned to death.

The birds were found on Thursday morning and the zoo described it as “devastating news”.

Earlier this year an otter died at the zoo after getting tied up in a pair of trousers given to him by a zookeeper.

A capybara was crushed to death at the zoo in 2009 while a corn snake suffered hypothermic shock in 2011 after a keeper failed to follow handling procedures.
