Innovative mental health therapy in Medway

A mental health service has opened just two weeks ago in Medway by a group of volunteers.

The non-profit charity, called IMHP (Improve Mental Health Provision), aims to come up with new and innovative ways to improve mental health well-being of their participants, and reduce social stigma.

Through the goodwill of the community, they borrow empty spaces such as cafes and shops to hold creative writing and music workshops. They also organise drop in counselling sessions every Tuesday.

They also hope to open a 24/7 mental health hub, so that people can have a free and accessible therapy service whenever they need it.

One of the main organisers, Dylan Rowe, set up the service because he felt that Medway lacked proper mental health care:

“From my own experience, A&E isn’t suitable for mental health, it isn’t designed for mental health. They don’t have the proper training. It is a severe problem and it’s something that needs to be addressed.”
