Gillingham boss Ady Pennock looks forward to his first home match in charge as he eyes his first win

Gillingham manager Ady Pennock will take charge of his first home game in charge when The Gills host Shrewsbury Town in League One tomorrow.

The Kent outfit are still looking for their first win under Pennock following last weekend’s 2-2 draw at league leaders Sheffield United.

Pennock is a fans favourite amongst The Gills faithful dating back to his playing days, but despite his return to Priestfield he remains focused on the job.

He said: “Obviously that walk (along the touchline) will be great for me but I’ll be very focused on the game and wanting to get those three points more than anything else.”

Gillingham looked far more organised in Sheffield showcasing a rearguard action that was palpably missing under Justin Edinburgh. Pennock dedicated that result to the fans and he thinks there is one clear difference amongst the team in the last week.

He said: “I think there’s a bit of belief here now and that’s the biggest thing in football especially when a new regime comes in. It’s a case of the players believing in what we want to do and I think we’ve got that now.”

Some fans are growing frustrated with the lack of transfer activity in the January window. Pennock conceded that he still thinks the squad needs strengthening.

He said: “I think we’re short. We have a fairly small squad anyway and I think if we did pick up two or three injuries we would be down to the bare bones. It’s important we do get the right players in for that competition.”
