Joel Glazer will make an appearance at the Manchester United fans forum this evening, his first appearance at such an event since acquiring ownership 16 years ago.

The Glazer family have been controversial figures in Manchester since taking over in 2005, with many protests occurring at games over the years criticising the owners’ approach.

The protests reached a new height in recent months following the controversial announcement of the European Super League (ESL) which sparked furore among fans and led to the cancellation of their fixture against Liverpool after fans broke into Old Trafford.

Mr Glazer – the co-owner – had been a prominent supporter of the ESL but later issued an apology to the fans after the backlash to the league materialised.

“We got it wrong, and we want to show that we can put things right.

“Although the wounds are raw and I understand that it will take time for the scars to heal, I am personally committed to rebuilding trust with our fans and learning from the message you delivered with such conviction.”

The forum will be the first opportunity for Glazer to begin healing his frosty relationship with fans.

Though the reaction to the announcement that he will be at the fan’s forum has been mixed, there have been many responses thinking that it is too little too late.

The announcement also comes at a time when the club’s summer recruitment begins to build up steam.

In recent days the club has been rumoured to be dealing with some of Europe’s finest talents with Jadon Sancho – the Dortmund superstar – supposedly in discussions.

Defenders Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier are also rumoured to the club in a summer where United look to build upon their 2nd place finish this season.

Glazer will be hoping that these potential signings take some of the attention off him and allow him to repair his fractured relationship with the fans of one of footballs biggest clubs.
