Exam timetables are out – our top 10 study tips for Kent’s Medway students

  1. Abandon the phone! A must for students if they want to get some decent work done. A 5 minute break scrolling through Instagram can turn into half an hour if you’re feeling generous with the likes. A 5 minute break without a phone really will be 5 minutes (unless you fall asleep!)

  2. The library is your friend! The Drill Hall is open 24/7 from Monday 21st March. We’re not saying you should be pulling all nighters…but if you have to cram it all in a couple of days you know where to head.

  3. Start early. If you start at let’s say 10am (it’s a bit of a long shot, we know) and finish by 2pm, you’ll have done 4 hours solid work and can easily do what you want for the rest of the day. Make those 24 hours count!
  4. Use the common room at Liberty Quays. If you need to revise, have had enough of sitting in your room and can’t be bothered to walk to the library (delete as appropriate) then the common room in Phase 2 can help. Just downstairs from your room, it’s all the peace and quiet of the silent zone in the library without the trek.
  5. Avoid group revision (unless you actually do work). Group revision sounds like a great idea. It motivates each other to revise and can mean you learn from each other. But if you spend your time chatting about weaves/football/the Kardashians, you might as well work on your own.

  6. Prioritise your revision. If there’s some exams you know absolutely nothing about, focus your time more on them but don’t forget the others. If you follow tip #2, dividing your time up between 3 exams could mean 2 hours on one topic and an hour each on the other two.
  7. Test papers are crucial. You could do all the revising you want, but if you don’t know what kind of questions will be asked then it won’t help. Google ‘kent uni exam papers’ and click on the first link, then past exam papers to find your subject!
  8. Buy a pack of highlighters. Reading pages of blue or black pen will be make revising even more boring. A bit of colour (and more importantly, highlighting the important bits) will make your revision easier and a bit more bearable.
  9. Reward yourself for revising. We know students aren’t machines and doing something for hours just won’t work. Rewards for revising are a good incentive. Things like catching up with TOWIE or going to Tap ‘N’ Tin after revision are good ways to let loose.

  10. Think of the summertime shine. Before you know it, it’ll all be over and you’ll be jetting off to Ibiza or Magaluf for a well-deserved holiday. If you remember the four months off you have, that will be enough motivation to smash those exams.

Good luck with your revision!
