Cricket: Bangladesh v England – first ODI live updates
Welcome to our live blog of updates from Dhaka where England are beginning their visit to Bangladesh with a one-day international!
WICKET – 288 ALL OUT – Mosh – 7 – England win by 21 runs.
Dot.
Single. 22 from 16 needed.
Wide ball.
Single. 24 from 17 balls.
47 OVERS – 285-9
Fine tickle. Inside edge. Two taken.
Big appeal for LBW. Umpire deems it to be spinning too much. Dot.
Another dot. Questionably should have been a wide. 27 from 22 balls.
Rashid to continue. Dot ball. 27 from 23 balls. I reckon it ends in this over.
46 OVERS – 283-9
WICKET – 280-9 – SHAFIUL – 0
WICKET – 280-9 – SHAFIUL – 0
Kamikaze stuff here. Ball was chunked up into the air towards mid-off. Bangladesh went for a single and a direct hit and he’s gone!!!
Great shape from Ball first up. Dot.
45 OVERS – 280-8
Run rate is just less than six – in the space of four overs the game has completely turned on its head.
Turns out he was stumped off a wide – extremely clever bowling
It’s the big one as Kayes is stumped off Rashid. Inspired decision to bring on the leg spinner and the opener has gone. Perhaps with it Bangladesh’s hopes?
WICKET – 279-8 – KAYES – 112
No, but pitched outside leg. As you were.
But was there bat?
Did look pretty plumb
Oh, England are reviewing the last ball of the over.
44 OVERS – 279-7
43 OVERS – 274-7
WICKET – 274-7 Mortaza – 1
WICKET – 274-7 Mortaza – 1
42 Overs – 271-6
But not today, a straight drive back to him. Dot.
Ball took one against Middlesex only a couple weeks ago…
Hat trick ball…
WICKET – 271-6 – MOSADDEK – 0
WICKET – 271-5 – SHAKIB AL HASAN – 79
Jos Buttler cuts a forlorn figure behind the stumps. Two set batsmen cruising to victory, who can blame him? Then again he is the captain – inspire Jos!
Bangladesh absolutely cruising. England 38 runs less at this stage. England need 40-6 to win
41 OVERS – 265-4
Freddie’s abysmal tally of one wicket from his stint in the hot seat needs to be addressed from an England point of view. Third power play and Rashid enter
40 OVERS – 256-4
Good evening everyone! I’ve been entrusted with the final bend on this enthralling match. Can Bangladesh produce a shock or will England survive a scare?
Worth mentioning that Shakib has reached his fifty in only 39 balls. Awesome hitting from the Bangladeshi middle order batsman.
38 OVERS 239-4
50 FOR SHAKIB AL HASAN
Shakib tonks it over square leg for a six! We thought it may be a chance for England, alas no. Only disappointment and despair. The ball after he plays it straight down the ground for four. England are getting battered here.
37 OVERS 226-4
KAYESY REACHES HIS CENTURY
36 OVERS 214-4
35 OVERS 207-4
34 OVERS 203-4
33 OVERS 197-4
32 OVERS 192-4
31 OVERS 188-4
Really quite wild from the enigma that is Ben Stokes, a hefty 14 coming from that last over. The fiery ginger (like Dan Surey) showed perhaps too much aggression there.
Stokes getting quite wild here, his first ball goes for four, followed by a wide in the second ball. He really needs to keep his head here.
30 0VERS 174-4
A long delay for some drinks here, but Kayes is re emerging form the ground and getting his pads on, ready to complete the over.
Some misfields from England, Ben Stokes letting one though, so Kayes scampers through for another single. Will they make England pay? On another note Kayesy is on the ground sipping some water, maybe suffering from some cramp in the searing Dhaka heat.
29 OVERS 170-4
28 OVERS 163-4
New batsman Shakib plays a lovely delicate sweep off his second ball for 4. Kayesy still there.. standing tall like a great oak tree of Bangladeshi hope. Will he fall?
Another one holed out to the infamous Kent substitute. Mushy swings carelessly at this one, perfectly finding Billings for his second catch. Rashid picks up another wicket.
MUSHY IS GONE!!
WICKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
26 OVERS 153-3
Ben Stokes fizzes the ball at the stumps in a run out attempt, it could have been out but Buttler fumbles for an overthrow.
25 OVERS 144-3
24 OVERS 139-3
23 OVERS 135-3
The next batsman is named Mushfiqur.. a ready made nickname. Let’s see what Mushy can do.
Huge wicket in the context of the game here, breaking up a disruptive Bangladeshi partnership. The end of Mud, form a slog sweep holed out to Keilan’s boyfriend Sam Billings in the deep.
MAHMUDULLAH caught Billings b Rashid 25
WICKET!!!!!
22 OVERS 132-2
At this point England were only on 103-3, Bangladesh a whole 20 runs ahead.
20 0VERS 114-2
19 OVERS 110-2
The whole newsroom is slightly terse as the deadline approaches, except for your main man Fred who’s in the corner covering this little ol live blog. Need to keep my head down.
18th OVER 100-2
Jake Ball, so tight during the rest of the over, has fired out a ball which must have slipped from his hands, with the ump calling a no ball. Imrul goes hell for leather and top edges one over the keeper to bring up his half century.
Stokes misses the stumps by a matter of millimetres. The Bangladeshis slightly chaotic between the wickets, with a run out attempt nearly taking out the umpire who dived for cover! Bangladesh getting further and further behind the run rate. Nice and tight from Stokesy.
18TH OVER 90-2
Keilan has abandoned his duties so your main man Freddie Nicholas is taking over
16th OVER – 89-2
England were 71-3 at this stage so Bangladesh are still very much alive. Then again they don’t have Jos Buttler
15th OVER – 87-2
WICKET – 82-2 – SABBIR – 18
David Willey has taken a grab on the boundary – goes over the ropes, lobs it into the air and takes it as he steps back inside – looks good!
Wicket maybe?!?
14th OVER – 82-2
13th OVER – 71-1
12th OVER – 62-1
Cheer up Dave!
11th OVER – 57-1
10TH OVER – 50-1
WICKET – 46-1 – Iqbal – 17
Jake Ball is on for his ODI England debut
9th OVER – 45-0
It’s a newsroom full of tension here at the moment, with a lot of focused faces – not least Duarte Dias – if only he was as engrossed in our paper as he is at a ridiculous load of garbage on space
8th OVER – 42-0
7th OVER – 28-0
6th OVER – 25-0
5th OVER – 19-0
4TH OVER – 19-0
4th OVER – 19-0
OVER 3 – 13-0
Anyway we’re in the third over and the hosts are 12-0 chasing 309 to win
Dan’s middle name is Leonard by the way. Seriously, it is.
Thanks to D.Surey for the first stint, he’s off galivanting and has thrown me at the helm of Bangladesh’s reply

Roy’s looking good here. He’s scored 34 runs from 34 balls and England will be hoping he can stick around and help build a big total.
Duckett’s off the mark in international cricket with a single against the spin of Shakib.
WICKET! James Vince
5th over
3rd over
Jason Roy and James Vince have just opened the batting for England and the visitors have scored 11 without loss.
It’s all over. England have turned things around and taken six wickets for 20 runs. An amazing comeback from England and Jake Ball has five wickets on his debut! Kudos England!
