Put yourself in Santa’s shoes and donate this Christmas

Santa has one night to deliver presents around the world, but you have until the 25th of December. As the decade comes to an end, why not perform one final positive gesture.

Here are a few things you can do to help the less fortunate ones this Christmas.

  • As temperature drops, demand for warm clothes rises

Shoes, coats and sweaters that you haven’t worn in a long time but still lay around in your closet – donate them! Charities such as UNICEF, Goodwill and Salvation Army always collect and are open to receiving clothes.

Charity shops such as Demelza Hospice Care for Children, based in South-East England, are also always welcome to receive donations.

  • Santa delivers one present for each kid, why don’t you help him?

Remember seeing big wrapped boxes underneath the Christmas tree, unwrapping them and being so happy. Large charitable organisations and local groups such as churches, shelters and hospitals often hold used toys or provide donors with wish lists to ensure that everyone has something to unwrap this holiday, so you can bring the joy you experienced as a child.

If you will be donating toy drives, make sure that all new items are still in their original packaging. And any used toys are clean, safe and in good condition.

Before cleaning up your children’s playroom or cleaning out your own childhood space, remember that some charities don’t accept certain goods. You can get more information on the charities’ websites.

  • “Hygiene is two thirds of health”

Products such as toilet paper, shampoo, diapers and toothpaste are essential to our personal hygiene and they tend to go quickly. We need to keep in mind that such products are often forgotten about when we talk about donating.

We also need to remember about female hygiene. Products such as pads and tampons are always needed and are vital products among the female society. These are often expensive, and therefore harder to obtain, especially as a young woman.

  • Food is the ingredient that binds us together

The Trussell Trust’s State of Hunger report estimated that one in 50 UK households used a food bank in 2018-19 and at least 3 million food parcels were given out.

Food banks are looking for people to donate products such as canned and boxed food (tuna, cookies, pasta, sauces). Remember that fresh products such as yoghurt and fruits have a limited consumption time before they expire.

In this cold weather and heart-warming time of the year, throw kindness around like confetti and keep in mind that small things make a difference.
