Coming from Hong Kong, I have always known the city-wide anger and hatred that Hong Kong people hold against the Chinese, as well as the Communist Party.

So when the protests started, I could see people were not just fighting for democracy, but also they were fighting for the almost frightening possibility of being part of China and the real Chinese. Because the country that is just a train-journey away from them has everything they despise.
