New York City celebrates Biden win with an Empire State of mind
Cheering, dancing, singing, honking horns and smiles continue to fill up the New York atmosphere as people continue celebrating Joe Biden’s presidential race victory.
Donald Trump’s hometown neighbourhoods all came outside and poured into the city’s streets, parks and squares on the sunny autumn day to cheer and party in honour of the newly elected President and his Vice President Kamala Harris. The celebrations continued later into the night, despite the pandemic.
“I can’t even describe it, it feels surreal,” admits Ilya Kutyrev, a New York City based dancer and model, “everyone just started screaming and honking on the streets and I was in bed confused, and then saw the news. It is an insane historic day”.
Some Trump supporters also came out to the streets as a sign of unity and acceptance of the American people’s choice. “I voted Trump because of my family’s business and I don’t agree with Biden’s tax plans, but at the end of the day I am American, I like to party and look at all this love, how can we not cheer and put our differences aside”, says William Evans, real estate agent based between the states of New York and California.
As the western country continues to celebrate, this year’s US presidential election proved that democracy is a crucial factor to the country’s wellbeing, as Biden broke records for most votes ever casted as a presidential candidate.
