On this day

On this day, December 2nd 1993 Columbian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar shot dead

Pablo ‘El Patron’ Escobar was shot dead 26 years ago to this day. Killed by Columbian police, his death brought about an end to his two-decade campaign of violence.

Massacres, drug wars, and assassinations of politicians were only too common during his blood-soaked tenure. His vast cocaine empire reached all corners of the globe, notably America, and allowed him to amass a fortune close to £30 billion, yet led Columbia to adopt the title of ‘murder capital of the world’.

‘Don Pablo’ as he was affectionally called, was however revered by many, brainwashing many around him by putting money into the community, therefore gaining a Robin Hood type reputation.

For a man who brought about so much destruction and pain during his lifetime, the nature of his death was always destined, and perhaps rather fitting. Chased across the rooftops of Los Olivos, bullets inevitably caught up with him, striking him in the leg and torso, before the last went straight through his ear, a bullet being the final thing he heard.

Following his death, he became something of a saint to those from Medellin, with 25,000 people attending his funeral, believing him to of been a divine help.

He was not. He was a very bad man.
